I started this blog/website in early May. Thanks to all of my readers for your interest and insightful comments. While I will continue to write my blog, I am starting a new chapter and will also be hosting the new Blog Talk Radio’s “Transition Aging Parents” show. This will allow each of you to “hear” from authors, experts and thought leaders in the field of aging and geriatrics.
I will be hosting 4 BlogTalkRadio interviews during the month of August. I am pleased to share the names and background of my guests! I’ve had amazing conversations with these guests as I inquired about interviews. They are all knowledgable and very willing to share with each of us so that we, as adult children and caregivers, can educate ourselves, gain strategies that will enrich our relationship with…and strengthen our personal advocacy for our aging parents.
Our parents’ later years sometimes brings us in a closer, more intimate relationship with our parent than ever before. This has certainly been true for me. While that has enriched my life tremendously, I have and continue to face new challenges as my mother ages. So I seek out answers, and I seek out support. Our 4 guests will address both of those areas.
So, take a moment, check our schedule below and mark your calendar. If you can listen live, you will be able to ask our guests questions, either by calling in or by the online chat feature. You can either click on the link below to get to my BlogTalkRadio show or you can click on the BlogTalkRadio icon to the right on this web page. If you can’t listen live, a recording will be made available immediately after the show ends. (The url to my Blog Talk Radio show page is: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/dalec)
As always, I wish you the very best on your journey with your aging parent. Please feel free to comment below about any upcoming or past recorded show from the list below. Or suggest someone you’d like to hear interviewed!
Here are the August shows:
- Friday, August 7th, 10am EDT. Denise Brown, founder of Caregiving.com, will explore the power of caregiver support groups. What type is right for you? Where would you find one? Denise’s site is celebrating its 13th anniversary this week. Support groups are not just for the primary, 24/7 caregiver. Every type of caregiver and family member of an aging parent needs support.
- Tuesday, August 11, 11am EDT. Dale Susan Edmonds, founder of Talk-Early-Talk-Often.com, will share her knowledge and strategies for helping families communicate with their aging parents. As an ordained minister for the past 25 years, she brings much real-life experience to the table. You will want to hear Dale if you’re wondering how to start talking about life changes with your parent OR if you have a specific issue.
- Thursay, August 20, 1pm EDT. Dr. William R. Shankle, neurologist, researcher, founder of the Shankle Clinic, author of “Preventing Alzheimer’s“. After reading the first sentence of his book, I knew I not only had to read this book….but I had to share Dr. Shankle’s message with as many adult children as I could reach. You will want to hear his “Prevention through Delay” message. When you walk away from this interview, you will never look at Alzheimer’s in the same way.
- Date to be determined, after August 17. David Solie, author of “How to Say It to Seniors”. David shares that our aging parents are still experiencing two distinct and important developmental phases. After reading his book, I find myself doing a different self-talk when listening to and answering my mother. Thank you, David! If you want to better understand your parent, be sure to catch this show.
